Kanaval: A People's History of Haiti in Six Chapters

Growing up in Haiti, Kanaval season was the most awaited time of the year, although I wasn't allowed to partake in the festivities due to. my religious upbringing, this never deterred me to tap my foot and dance(while my parents weren't watching) every time the "Band Rara"passed my street. The beautiful sounds of drums, trumpets and chacha filled the streets as every child and adult ran to partake in the "foul" parade.
