It’s time to stand up and demand justice. We are tired of being treated as second-class citizens, disregarded because of the challenges our country faces. Haitian families in Canada and abroad deserve better. The Permanent Residence Pathway for Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan Nationals, launched by the Canadian government in November 2023, was a beacon of hope—a chance for families to reunite, rebuild, and thrive in safety. We are deeply grateful for this initiative, but we can no longer ignore the issues that have plagued the program from the start. It is time for Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to take accountability and fix these issues.
From the moment the program was released, applicants faced numerous obstacles. The application process required families to gather extensive paperwork that could only be processed in Port-au-Prince, a city under siege by gangs. People risked their lives traveling to secure the necessary documents, spending hundreds of dollars to meet the first-come, first-serve deadline. Despite their sacrifices, many applicants have been left in limbo.
One month after the program’s launch, IRCC sent emails to some applicants requesting that they re-upload their IDs—despite the fact that all required documents had already been submitted. After complying with the request, these applications remained pending, with no updates provided. Families have been waiting for nearly a year, their hopes shattered by silence.
Adding insult to injury, IRCC allowed applications to be submitted long after the program's capacity was reached, giving false hope to thousands of families. Why didn’t IRCC close the submission portal once the target was reached? Why are families who followed all the rules being left without answers?
Haitians are in crisis. Our country is in the worst state it has ever been, with gangs controlling vast areas and innocent people losing their lives daily. Those of us established in Canada, who can financially and emotionally support our families, are simply asking for a fair chance. We want answers. We want accountability. Most importantly, we want action.
This is not just about applications or documents—it’s about families, lives, and futures. IRCC must acknowledge the systemic errors in their process and take immediate steps to resolve the delays. Applicants who risked everything to comply with the program’s requirements deserve to be treated with fairness and respect.
We urge you to take a stand with us. Please take a moment to sign our petition and share it with your friends, family, and networks. Together, we can push for the change and accountability that our community so desperately needs.
